Silence In The Trees

“What Do You Hear?”

Around the neighbourhood
Birds perched up on the trees
Silent, still they stood
It caused me some unease

“Why do you not sing?”
I asked one in colour green
“It’s the early morning,
I brought you your favourite bean.”

Though he was suspicious,
The bird could not resist
He perched himself on my hand,
Delivered me the gist

“Why do we have a voice
When none can say a word
Without the fear of wrong
Or being overheard?

“Make-believe or truth,
A falsehood or a lie,
Offend the silence in the wind,
and we might never fly.”

Before he could have finished,
A dreadful sight deterred,
Falling from the tree above
Was a wingless bird

Honouring The Departed

QingMing Festival 2018

Paper money, paper house
Paper gold and paper blouse
Burn them for ancestors dear
Dead but somehow always near

Hope From The Grave

The Lord has risen. Happy Easter 2018 🙂

At the Sabbath’s end,
In the early dawn
A great earthquake shook
In the early morn

Down, an angel came
Rolled the stone away
The tomb which once sealed
Now empty for display

The tomb keepers trembled,
Fell down like dead men,
Who knows if they ever
Got up again

The angel spoke clear
“Fear not,” he said
“Christ whom you seek
Has risen from the dead”

The Lord Provides

In the cold silence of the night
A single boat floats out to sea
The moon glows full and bright
So it’s not so hard to see

A man casts his net down
And prays for fish aplenty,
Then the water yields a mighty catch
Counting more than twenty

Soon, the waves begin to echo
The seabirds begin to cry
It’s time to make his journey home
Where the land is dry

He pulls his loaded boat to shore
To meets his wife’s embrace,
Then he takes the fishes up the path
To the marketplace
